He honed his journalism and leadership skills as well as advocacy for education and the environment back in college as Editor of the Catalyst (PUP) and Sapientia (USANT), Chapter Chair of College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP) Camarines Sur, President of PUP Central Student Council, and Director for Advocacy, Education and Training of the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP).
