Telus Pvr Activation Code
Thinking of moving TV/internet from Shaw to Telus. Two basic reasons, price (with 6 month promo factored in savings of almost $600 over 2 years) and 4K service (although limited content, Shaw has no 4K on the horizon). Will be going with Internet 150/150 if I do this. I have a setup question with respect to the 4K PVR and whether I should go wired ethernet or will wireless be OK. I currently have my Shaw modem/router in bridged mode and am using a Netgear R6400. At our main home threatre (where the 4K PVR would go) I have gigabit lan with a switch and all our enabled devices (TV, Roku, etc) connected. If Optik TV 4K works fine wireless, then this is easy.
Bridge the Actiontec Port 1 and use my Netgear router for everything but Optik. But if ethernet will provide better 4K bandwidth (and therefore more and better quality streams) then how do I setup to use my Netgear for WiFi and the Actiontec for wired lan with the two networks able to see each other? I think one of these three methods would work. The first (and less preferable in my mind) would be to put the Netgear router into a DMZ on the Actiontec. Any downsides to this? The other method I can think of would be to disable DHCP on the Netgear, disable Internet IP from the ISP, and point it to the IP of the Actiontec (192.168.1.254) for both the Gateway IP and DNS Server addresses (using an eligible static IP as the address itself). Or, is the easiest the best.
Should I just put my Netgear into AP mode, plugged into the Actiontec? Am I on the right track? Any other suggestions? So a couple of things. The new 3200 modem is able to push gigabit service over LAN and HPNA coax, which allows you to stream 4K on their PVR. The new 3200 also has 2 routers both a 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz. It also has a secure router that sends the encrypted signal to the WiFi STB's they use.

So really 3 routers but only 2 you can connect to. That said you are some what right about the iffy 5G signal from them but the 2.4ghz is incredibly stable and I have it in the basement of a 3 level. Now if you want your 4K pvr at your home theater you will need a dedicated path to it and not share that path with a switch and other devices. It works in theory but causes pixeling if overdrawn. The Actiontech interface is super friendly to use and to set it to bridge mode is not too hard if you feel the need to.
If you want the connections to all be hardwired (Ethernet or Coax) then the nice thing with the new 3200's is that can be done on both types of inside wire where as before you could only have Ethernet for data and coax for the STB's. And a few more questions because if I've got this right, I may have a really easy solution. All my wiring comes into a communications closet, so I have standard RJ11 or RJ 12 for phone, RG59, and CAT 5e runs all coming to the same point. Currently there's a Shaw Modem, my Netgear router, and a phone modem in there (which would obviously come out with a switch to Telus). If I read this right, I could use the coax output of the T3200 and connect it to the run that goes to where the 4K box is, and then use an ethernet to coax adapter at the other end to the Arris box? Is the coax port enabled on the Actiontec? If the coax is a straight run from the Actiontec to the PVR, there should be no need for other hardware, right?
