Evan R 26 July 2016 Simple yet slick. While not as diverse in term of options as similar assets on the marketplace, Zack has made a dialog system that is incredibly easy to use and work off of. I would highly recommend this as a start for dialog in your game. Also unlike some other more complex attempts at a dialog system this one features fantastic documentation.
I'm using the textbox system that created HeartBeast in this tutorial (but I have a few issues. Quick and easy text engine. Its THAT basic. I recommend this to anyone who just wants to add a text box system to your game. I just got it today so I'm trying to tinker with it to make it work for my game. I'm very new to coding and GML so this was a good start for me.
This asset blended in seamlessly with what I already have done in my game. The only reason I can't give this five stars is that there are free versions that do more and if you want an example of cool things you can do with Gamemaker, give those a shot as well. A more advanced user may be more comfortable with those other options. Still, I came back to this and am glad I did as implementing what you need for your game with this as a base is not too difficult given how well documented and intuitively simple Zack's code is.
Side note:Mr. Banack even included a demo through HTML5.I appreciate trying before buying. This review was left for a previous version of this asset. Dave S 16 January 2016 Quick and easy text engine Its THAT basic.
I recommend this to anyone who just wants to add a text box system to your game. I just got it today so I'm trying to tinker with it to make it work for my game. I'm very new to coding and GML so this was a good start for me. It could do with a bit better explanation as to how to use it, but so far I'm able to figure it out myself. You only need the dialogue object and the one script to make this work. Much easier than some of the other text engines that require multiple scripts.
